Autopsy comes from the
Greek word meaning to see for one's self.
Recent studies have shown autopsies uncover unexpected findings
in around 40% of cases.
Uncovering these unexpected findings gives family members not
only peace of mind, but useful information about their own
health.
For example, in a recent case, a man was found to have a small
previously undiagnosed colon cancer at autopsy - unrelated to his
cause of death. His living brother and sister were then able
to be tested and both were found have colon polyps which were able
to be removed before they progressed to cancer.
By far, the two biggest killers in the country today are heart
disease and cancer.
In addition to determining the cause of death (when possible),
our Peace of Mind Autopsy provides a thorough examination of the
heart and cardiovascular system to assess the level and extent of
atherosclerosis. We also perform a thorough examination of all
organ systems looking for early undetected cancers and other
abnormalities. In men, this includes an extensive microscopic
examination of the prostate - a site known to harbor stealth and
potentially lethal cancers.
Indiana Autopsy's Peace of Mind Autopsy Service specializes in
helping families face challenging issues.
We work quickly and efficiently. The procedure is
undetectable and will not delay or affect the memorial services in
any way.
